[Opengenalliance] How open is FamilySearch?

Have you come across werelate? They are a beta Wikipedia -style site for
genealogy.

Interface needs a lot of work, but it seems to have good promise and is
fully open.

I forgot to add: as you say, not open in the sense of being able to
grab all the data - and in general the LDS seem to be fairly whimsical
about who gets special access to what.
