The freedom for each and everyone of us to express our views on the
internet is under threat like never before. Many people may be
prevented from using an essential service we all rely on: the
internet.
The UK government is considering laws that would allow individuals to
be cut off from the internet for alleged copyright infringement. They
say the reason is to protect the economic prosperity of the creative
industries, but online revenues are up, and infringement is
decreasing.
If Lord Mandelson's plan becomes law, disconnection may start for
copyright infringement and then be extended to other activities. It's
disproportionate, and won't work, and we need to stop it before it
becomes law.
Musicians are against these plans, the public disagrees with them, but
Mandelson needs to hear from you now.
